Energy Efficiency & U-Values
Understanding energy efficiency is key to choosing the right windows and doors for your home. Better U-values mean lower heating bills, a more comfortable home, and a reduced carbon footprint.

What Are U-Values?
A U-value measures how effective a material is as an insulator. It represents the rate of heat transfer through a structure, measured in watts per square metre per degree Kelvin (W/m²K). The lower the U-value, the better the insulation.
For context, a single-glazed window typically has a U-value of around 5.0 W/m²K, while modern double glazing achieves around 1.2 W/m²K. Our premium systems from Schuco and Cortizo can achieve U-values as low as 0.7 W/m²K with triple glazing.
Current building regulations in England require replacement windows to achieve a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better. All of our systems comfortably exceed this standard.
Choosing the Right Glazing
Double Glazing
U-values from 1.0 W/m²K
The standard choice for most installations. Two panes of glass with an argon gas-filled cavity provide excellent thermal and acoustic insulation at a competitive price point.
Triple Glazing
U-values from 0.7 W/m²K
Three panes of glass with two gas-filled cavities for the highest levels of thermal performance. Ideal for exposed locations, north-facing elevations, or Passive House projects.
Low-E Coatings
Enhanced performance
Low-emissivity coatings reflect heat back into your home while allowing natural light through. All of our glazing units feature advanced Low-E coatings as standard.
Why Energy Efficiency Matters
Lower Energy Bills
Energy-efficient windows and doors reduce heat loss, meaning your heating system works less to maintain a comfortable temperature. This translates directly into lower energy bills.
Improved Comfort
High-performance glazing eliminates cold spots near windows and reduces draughts. Your home stays warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
Less energy consumption means fewer carbon emissions. Upgrading your windows and doors is one of the most effective ways to improve your home's environmental impact.
Property Value
Energy-efficient homes are increasingly attractive to buyers. High-performance windows and doors with FENSA certification add measurable value to your property.
